A friend of mine put in a new hot water heater last week. He striped the old one down for me to make a boil tank out of. I had told him what I was wanting to make a month ago and he took it upon him self to help me out and get this one read. It is going to be nice. It is a 40 gal tank with drain hole plumbing in place. We know it will boil water, or at least hold hot water. I take some pics when I get'er done.

Here is the boil tank. This was a 40 gal hot water heater. You can see the drain plugged area. The concave bottom direct the heat to the center, hopefully making it heat up faster.

Now all you need is a lid to help hold the heat in. That is a lot of surface area to have to keep hot. What are your thoughts on insulating the tank?

I would but I have a open flame and don't know what to put around it.

Covering the top of your barrel sure does make a big difference on how fast the water boils. I use a piece of sheet metal. Good lookin tank ya got there.

That's a fine looking tank Tony. It might cook up a pot of gumbo too!

I am not sure what they use on the hot water hearters but it is also dealing with an open flame.
