I have no secrets when it comes to helping a fellow trapper. So far, my top 3 producing lures are GH11 by Fox Hollow sold only through Minnesota Trapping Products, Violator 7 also sold by MTP, and John Grahms Super Bonanza. I have tried others and have caught with others but I like the way these 3 lures stay at the set. I also us red fox urine at half my sets and coyote urine at the other half. I still dont know which one is best but red fox urine sure does smell loud and really does the trick. If you dont have access to all these lures, then dont worry about it, I have used over 40 lures in the last 4 years and alot of them out there have worked. I just narrowed it down to what works best for me. The key word is me. Just because its my best lure it may not be your best so experiment and good luck this season.

If you haven't tried Tim Caven's Yodel Dog your missing out. They can't walk past it with out checking it out. Another good one is VooDoo it makes them dumb and the cats love it too.

I have always thought lure and bait are extra items and not essential to successful trapping. My Grandfather taught me to trap mink, coon, otter, and nutria in the swamp as a young man.He had no use for lure or bait, but he did acknowledge the fact that he did not know everything about trapping,he was a humble man.Blind trail sets in the water or on notched logs were his bread and butter.Any smell can be used to pique the curiosity of an animal to coax him to place his foot in your trap, some scents do this more frequently than others. The best lure ever made will only catch one animal, target or incidental,if only one trap at one location is utilized. It is best to think of a location as an opportunity to catch multiple animals of a desired species or different desired species, even using incidental catches as decoys to draw in desired species.Try to set at least three different types of sets at promising locations,a hole set, a flat set,and a scent post set.By doing this, you can catch a possum, coon,or skunk at your hole set with bait and lure, and still have two subtle sets left for suspicious predators, who will be interested in the incidental caught at this prime location. This is a common sense truth to successful predator fur trapping,it will increase your numbers and your fur check.

most of the furbearers I took, back in the day, were by walking the marsh and shooting as I saw them with a .22... but the few traps I did have I used for coon mostly... sometimes something else would show up in um (nutria, coyote, mink)... I would go perch jerking before checking the traps, clean a few of the fish and put the leftovers on a hard bank on the edge of the marsh or on a mound with a mangro bush.. then push sink the foothold in the soft mud next to it... then I would break branches and put on both sides of the set.... seemed to work decent... my uncle used cookies on his sets for coons.. that seemed to work decent too...

Try Minnesota trapline products. They carry fox hollow stuff. Their backed up big time right now. Their saying orders are being shipped 2-3 days after the order is placed. Everyone's trapping this year, lol. I'm going to get all kinds of cheap traps off of eBay

While lure and bait aren't essential if you know the habits and travel ways of animals, they do increase substantially the rate at which you can connect with animals. Personally, I prefer Dobbins Purrfect, Fox Hollow's Bounty Hunter, Canine Select, and Violater 7. They have allowed me to harvest almost 40 grey fox over the last couple years while trapping for a very small, local farm. I also use Grey and Red Fox Urine. I almost exclusively run dirt holes and flat sets for these K9's and usually use two or three different types of lures at the set.
When I use bait, chicken scraps or beaver chunk bait have worked great for me.
MTP and FNT have both provided excellent service and offer a variety of these lures that work but are understandably busy during the trapping season immediately following a record Nafa selling season.
