next you will cut you a 5" piece of your pipe... and also cut a 3" x 2" piece of your flat bar... center up the flat bar on one side of the pipe in the shape of a "T"... so the 3" part is side to side on the pipe (hope that makes sense) now weld it up with a tack on the top and two 1" or so welds on the bottom side... then set your spring on top of that plate to get an idea of where your holes need to be drilled... you should try to get the back of the spring as close to the back of the place as you can (to the bottom of the trap in other words)... now... the two short ends that are hanging out the spring will need to be bent forward (towards the entrance of the trap).. once you have them like they need to be (about a 45 degree angle between the short pieces sticking out and the top side of the spring), bolt on the spring. Attachments:

this part is a bit tricky... you will need to find the point where the sides of the pipe wall and the top of the pipe wall meet in accordance to a 90 degree angle.... the easiest way to do so is to set a square on the entrance side of the pipe, keep the square parallel to your spring plate... now slide the square up until you get to where you can only see a small gap inside the pipe between the pipe walls and the square (really hard to explain but maybe the pictures will help).... once you find the spot, mark it and find it on the opposite side also and mark.... then you will need to drill a pilot hole... I used the same bit as used for the bolt holes.... once the pilot hole is drilled, use a step bit to open the hole to the desired width... I believe i made mine 3/4" ... try to point the step bit down in the direction that the catch wire will be fed and not inward towards the center of the pipe... Attachments:

now you will need to weld on a pad eye to hole your cantilever and trigger... this is a 1"x1" piece... then after welded on, drill a hole in it with the 5/32nd bit... then you will need to cut a 9" piece of wire... slide the wire through both of the wire guide holes that you drilled in the last step... center it up the best you can... once centered, stick big screwdriver inside the pipe from the entrance side, over the top of the wire.... pry the wire down in an effort to form the shape of the pipe the best you can (I haven't perfected this part yet).. you will have to bend it from the tip side also to try to get it to shape... this takes a little work.. a press or roller would surely make this easy... once you have it to shape... pull the bent wire up towards the open spring.... make a mark where the two bent ends and the open spring meet.... now you will need to fold the wire over, just short of those marks... (I held the wire with one pliers and folded it with another... the reason you want it to be short of the mark is to give it tension on the spring.. remember, this is where the wire will set when closed on the coons hand.... it should look something like the picture... i still have to tighten the folds up a little bit from what is shown in the picture.. but you will have the idea Attachments:

Thanks for sharing!!! Do you think the aluminum will get tore up? no I don't think so.... if that coon eats through the aluminum, he deserves to get out, or i'm not checking my traps often enough...

now you will need to cut out your trigger... I eye ball this every time... but the smart way to do this is to cut your cantilever and bolt it to the pad eye... then measure from there down to how far you want the trigger to hang... but in short, it's pretty quick just to eye ball it and start cutting... i leave mine about 1/4" off the bottom of the inside of the pipe when it's set Attachments:

now just bolt up your cantilever to the trigger and the pad eye and your almost set to go... forgot to add... you will need to drill a hole just in front of the spring plate.. i made about a 1/2" hole for my trigger to slide into Attachments:

next you will need to weld on a stake... I cut this stake to a point at 7" in length... and welded it to the pipe at 1"... so the stake is 6" total hanging down.... then I cut out a pad eye for the chain and welded it just above the stake.... and badeeeebadeeebadeee thas all folks.... you can also put a lid on the bottom if you like, but you really don't need to... i built a few for a buddy of mine without the lid.. we balled up a piece of paper, put fish oil on the top of it and shoved it into the bottom of the pipe... then pushed the stake into the ground and dumped in a mix of cat food and small marshmellows up to about where the trigger is.... caught 3 coon in 4 dp's Attachments:
