Though I only own one dozen MB 550's,I believe it to be the best production predator trap ever made for all around species trapping. The heavy duty construction, the cast jaws, the powerful springs, with the easy option to four coil if desired and the swivel and chain combination make it hard to beat out of the box with no modification. Not to mention the fact they will probably still be catching animals when we are dead and gone for quite a while.Yes,you can modify Bridgers,Montgomerys, and Victors to make them Cadillacs, but they are still not the Mercedes the MB 550's are straight out of the box.I think the MB 550 and the MB 650 are destined for the trapper's hall of fame, and the MB 450 will probably not be far behind them.

I concur. The line of MB traps are bar-non some of the best made foothold traps a person can purchase. The Caven family put quite a bit of effort and thought into these traps before introducing them on the market.
Although I only run the MB650-OL model and use it exclusively for K9 trapping as well as Cats as I am not in the "Live" market. The LARGE 3" diameter pan , no "loose' jaw mechanism and dogless style set up with night latch feature is a killer combination. I do like the little MB450 if I was strictly Fox trapping but am not sold on the MB550 as of yet.
These traps are ready to roll right out of the box and WILL last many lifetimes of trapping. I do however make a few minor adjustments/additions to my 650s but that's just personal preference.

I'm somewhat torn between the 550s and 650s I like the wire levers of the 650s speed wise larger kill area for the pan dogless and no loose levers. My target being cats and canines I'm a lil concerned about the grey fox. I was wondering if the inside and outside lamination would be easier on the lil grey fox? I thInk for cats and totes it would be the trap jus don't wanna loose a grey. Whats everyone's opinion?

Jakelsmith, for trapping a combination species predator line in Louisiana, the MB 550 would be hard to beat. The laminated MB 650 is a great trap for coyote and bobcat, especially up North or out West, where the animals are larger and more valuable and the weather is much colder and freeze and thaw are the rule and not the exception,as it is here in Louisiana. The MB 450 is a very good choice if you wish to target fox and it will hold Louisiana bobcat and coyote well, also.Buy a dozen of each, you will not be disappointed and they will last you a lifetime.

Sorry but I have to disagree. While it's a great coyote trap I think it's a little slow for cats even though I catch cats in them I have had way too many toe catches and out right misses. I cut the extra length spring pins off mine and now I wish I hadn't because I would add some lightening springs to them. They are one tuff trap and ready to set almost out of the box.
