This is what I want to hear. I know there are lots of different traps being used out there. I like the MB-650C for coyote. I use a lot of MB-550s and have no problem, but when trapping the river bottom for coyotes, I like the dogless 650C.

tony, you should specify in the original post wether or not your talking about live market or not. I trap mostly for live market. I prefer the victor #3 soft catches. The pads must be kept in excellant shape and i want 3 to 4 swivels in the first foot of my chain, regardless of if i am using drags or stakes.

Good point Clint. I trap the dead market so foot damage is of no concern to me, but I have did do the live market for a while. I see you say in the frist foot of chain, I use a short chain on all my land set now. I like the short chain so they can't get a running start and hit the end of the chain thus causing foot damage. I may have 8" on my traps in most cases. Have you or do you use a shock spring? I know they make a world of difference.

If I'm trapping for the dead market I use, 1 a 3-N Victor, 2nd #3 Newhouse, 3rd #3 Blake and Lamb. If trapping for the live market, #3 Blake and Lamb fully modified. All traps are set up with 6' of chain and with my drags.

No thanks. I used to peg my traps, but I learned how to drag them. It's a whole lot easier now.

No matter if Im trapping for the live market or not, the fully modified Bridger #3 is my first choice and my second is the fully modified Bridger #2. I keep the factory chain but install a swivel at the base plate, one in the center of the chain and one on the end. I have the JC Conner shock springs on some and have ordered a bunch more. I like them but its more to bed in the soil. As far as staking, I have gone almost 100% using Berkshire hd with a 15" cable. Never have had a problem with them except for the price. But 3 coyotes to the live market and I can get 12 dozen of them and that last me a long while.

This being my first year to try any trapping I had purchased a dozen Duke 1.5. I have to say I was somewhat underwhelm when I received them.
I have since picked up a dozen MB-550 and as far as I can tell these are ready to go out of the box. Those thick cast jaws need no lamination chains and swivels are heavy and should not need to be changed.
Like I said I am new but with these two side by side I am going to stick with MB and will be picking up more of them.

They are some fine traps in my opinion. Graiga, you have seen how many of them I use, I think I have enough for now.

They get the job done just fine for what they are intended for.

My favorite coyote trap is a victor 220. They don't fight the trap much at all with one of these around their neck! Hey Tony.........you still got a pic of that? ??

Brands, well i won't get into that. But i will say that i have a good mix of #2 and #3's. They are both excellent coyote traps. I know alot of southern guys that are using 1.75's with excellent results.
I tend to go bigger as I have mucho snow to deal with. ;D I like a high sq jawed trap to come up thru the snow.
