What is the preferred size for fox? I prefer a 4.5 jaw spread. For years I used the 1 1/2 Victor then moved to the #2 BMI Wolfer which was a 5" jaw spread. Now I am using the MB-450 with its wide face cast jaws. What is your preferred size trap?

you know i am not a fox trapper. when i first read 4.5 jaw spread my initial response was, thats a little big, but the more i think on it: it sounds like a nice median. I would like to know what some of the other fox trappers use.

Clint the 4.5 jaw spread is a 1 1/2 Victor or 1.5 Bridger or a MB-450. This is thougtht to be the number one size trap for fox across the country.

! .5s are great for fox but where I trap cats and coyotes are as likely to be waiting as a fox so I use #2 victor forge jaws and #3 sleepycreek longspring and a few #3-n Victors all not too teribly over kill for fox just not my first choice but I have to be able to handle all comers

Being the big time trapper I am.......LOL.
All I have are 4 1.5 dukes and a dozen #3 LS Victors. I use what I have for now. Would like to get some 550s one day.

I use my #11/2 Victors with #1.75 coil springs in them for grey fox,I also use #2 Victor long springs for exposed walk through sets for fox, with a special sand paper insert I put on the pan.MB 450's would be the cat's meow for a mixed bag, fox, cat,or coyote.
