The LTAHA join forces with LDWF last year and began a trappers education program. We have been building the program up developing the curriculum and continuing to add more hands on. We now have a level 1 as the on line course which can be taken at conservationlearning.org/login/index.php or visit the Louisiana Fur Advisory website and sign up. Next we offer a level 2 work shop where student are given follow up class time with real line demos covering water trapping, land trapping and skinning. And this year we offer the first of many level 3 classes to come where students spend two or three days running real trap line with instructors. Students are expected to set and run traps along side instructors. This was a wash out with three inch rain but it was great success as one of students took his first bobcat as his first ever catch (Mr. Wesley Blanchard was the instructor working with the student) . There were many coons taken a beaver. There was lots learned. The LTAHA will be actively seeking experienced trappers who are willing to teach in the education program using the curriculum provided and help us develop and improve the curriculum help promoted the trapping industry in a ethical and humane manor. Members interested in helping us with this new and exciting program please contact me by email, phone or here on this message board. Thanks for your continued support.
