I am very new to the trapping world. I got into it to control coyotes in my pasture and now I am branching into another property. The question I have is; does anyone have any tips on fining buyers for raccoon meat. I will be in an area thick with them and I hate to waste the meat. I have asked around and haven't really found any takers yet. I have heard that you can save them up and sell in bulk but I just don't have the means for that. I could maybe keep 5 frozen tops.
Would any of you have any ideas,tips, pointers on where to go to market them? I am in the Kaplan area of south Louisiana.

Since this is and open form I want to start off by stating if meat is dressed for sale it should be cleaned in a manner that would be acceptable to be put on your own table. Make sure that you keep the meat clean and wash it very good removing any blood or hair from the carcass.
In my area older African American have been my total market for years. It is heritage for them and I have made many good friends in the African American community by providing them with good coon meat. As you know our state is more culturally diversified than most and we have lived together excepting one another and providing for one another for years. All it takes is one or tow connections in the African American community and you should be able to sale all your coons for seasons to come. Keep in mind that not all black people eat coon meat but those that do will purchase from you time and time again if you sale a good quality product. Also, Super Bowl Sunday is the day after Thanksgiving sale for coon meat. On Super Bowl Sunday there are more coons cooked in the state of Louisiana than any other given day of the year.

Watch out for Louisiana Dept of Health and Hospitals. It is legal to sale coon meat with a trappers license but LDHH says you can't sale them for human consumption. Give me a call and I will explain more about it.
