i am a texas boy who got drawn out for a alligator hunt here in texas. it will he hook and line. don't worry i think your alligator trade is safe. my question is what kind of line do i use? i have a lot of 750lb paracord. i basically get one shot and don't want to screw up. so what would be the best line? thanks from a lost texas boy.

Paracord will work as I have seen many alligators taken with this type line. I personally use 1/4 or 5/16 black hollow braid polly rope for 20-25 foot and tie off to my anchor point with this. I then use five foot of #96 braided twine tied with double slip knots between the rope and twine. I use a #14/0 alligator hook. Reasoning behind my set up is the hollow braid will kind of float and you can follow the line and know which direction it is going. I then use the #96 because when you hit the knot between the rope and the twine you know it is about three to five foot to the gators mouth. (I have pulled moss off a gators nose and even felt the teeth of one trying to find a gator on the end of the line in vegetation.) When you hit the 96 you he is right there! That is my rig. I also use #10 ground wire with the smallest paper clamp made. I rap the #10 around my limb or bamboo and then make a J for the paper clamp to hang on. Make sure you put both depressor on the #10. This will hold the line straight down. Clip the #96 in the paper holder with your hook right under it. The #10 cooper wire will also release if for some reason the paper clamp locked up and did not release the twine. Hope this helps.
