Jennifer Hogue with the Department of Wild Life and Fish is requesting whole carcass mink to be tested for birth defects and reproductive organ development problems which have been showing up in the mink population of Louisiana for the past few years. The problems were brought to the departments attention and Jennifer was put in charge of the testing. Please help LDWF get to the root cause of these problems weather it be chemical releases, over population or poisons. Jennifer is looking for whole carcass mink, male and female. She is looking for samples from all across the state not just the marsh. Please contact Jennifer at 337-373-0032in the New Iberia office for more details. Thanks

LDWF needs mink from other parts of the state besides Ryan. If they only get samples from one part of the state they will not have a good "control" sample. This could be something that has caused the demise of our mink all over the state. This is really important.

will call them today and arrange for shipment. Thanks. Had my fingers crossed on this one because trapping just aint the same without a few mink picked up on the line. You can tell when their breeding around here because i found a mink in the road way, and 5 days later found another in the exact same spot.. almkst 2 weeks later i passed another on the opposite side of the road whike driving into town.. planned to pick it up on the way back but it was gone.. dang!!! all 3 in the same spot.

we will gladly take roadkills as long as they are not too rotten. we will need to know the road you found it on and the parish, and if you can tell whether the area around the road is agriculture or crawfish/rice fields, swamp, forest, bayou. etc.
i would really appreciate this, it would be our first samples from the north.

Im just reading this post, I've been extremely busy with work lately. I was wondering if there was a new pesticide or something out. I live in Lake Arthur a community completely surrounded with agricultural and crawfish farms. I've noticed a big decrease in mink this year than last. I haven't had time to trap but I would see them daily crossing the roads between ponds or road kill. I've seen 1 this year road kill. Also dead birds all over the place. I've found 5 in my yard in the last month. My property is surrounded by rice fields.
