Square buckets work good too if you can find you some. Cost less than building wood boxes also.

Yes wooden boxes work very well, when i built mine i put rabbit wire on the back side where they can see tru the box. Box traps have produced a lot of coon for me,just make sure you have a strong 220 because an otter will be waiting on you with an attitude, and i loop all my triggers on my 220 traps that put into the boxes, when you loop the triggers this is deadly on mink.

The boxes are a waste of time, unless you have incidental dog or cat problems, and then they can still get caught, even if you use sweet baits. The dog proof traps are almost ideal in these situations with the sweet baits. The 220 or 160 conibears are very efficient when used in blind trail sets on those well worn coon trails in thick areas. It is not unusual to pick up a bobcat or a grey fox in these types of sets.Always be aware of your situation when using blind conibear sets, error on the side of extreme caution if you consider this method a viable alternative.

Yes, they work well, but in Louisiana, you do not have to have them in a bucket or box. Here,I find blind trail sets with 220 conibear traps are the best option if you wish to maximize your catch when the opportunity allows you to use the 220's on land. You can also catch bobcat and grey fox in these sets, which are always a welcomed asset.Never,I repeat never, make these sets where there is a possibility of catching pet dogs or cats, just the occasional feral animals are bad enough.Of course as usual here in Louisiana, you must first reduce the local possum and armadillo population, before you can get to the coons.

You are welcome,Leechwrangler,I do not mind sharing information with someone, who appreciates it and is truly thankful.I am sixty years old so time is getting very valuable to me and when I say it is a waste of time,I mean your time can be better managed to maximize your fur catch, not that there is anything wrong with your particular method.Time is the measure of a man,you don't get old by being stupid.
