I'm looking for an official list of trapping laws. If this has been covered somewhere in the forums, I can't find it. The only thing I can find at LDWF is something that resembles a pamphlet, and is not real specific. It also states (in fine print) that "This publication is not an official copy of the laws in effect and should not be utilized or relied upon as such". This is my first year of 'officially' trapping and don't want to learn the laws the hard way from Mr. Game Warden. I am planning trap lines in Vermilion, Acadia, and Allen parishes, if that make any difference.
Thanks!

That's pretty much the only laws we have is the phamplet. I have yet to meet a game warden that has a clue about trapping laws.

Yeah, just got off the phone with the Lake Charles office and he said the the pamphlet is pretty much it. I told him about some of the laws that I've read about for other states, and he just laughed and said that our trapping laws are liberal. Thanks for your response ClintJohnson.

We should be very thankful for our state game and fisheries.. We have one of the longest, if not the longest trapping season in the states.. I have lived in 6 states and most start the same day as ours but end January 31st.. In Tennessee your only allowed to catch one bobcat and one otter a hearing think is how it used to be.. It may have changed by now.. Traps have to be equipped with rubber jaws on land in Tennessee unless the trap is at least 6" inside a burrow. Deer stops at 3" have to be on all snares.. Trap tags on every snare and trap.. It goes on and on lol.. We have no limits and we don't have to have trap tags.. I love my home state, ain't no place like it. The best people too..

Researching your question took me into all the title laws and really takes a law researcher. This question has been raised by trappers and even found its way into the last FAC meeting, yet know one can pull the exact law/laws from it. From what I have researched the pamphlet is the law. The problem is "some" law enforcement will make the law up as they feel it should apply or state what they have heard from other states. This is rarely the case with LDWF agents but can happen.

Try searching "Louisiana Revised Statutes Title 56" on the net. Title 56 covers laws regarding Wildlife and Fisheries. Title 14 covers criminal law such as trespassing and everything else regular cops enforce and Title 32 covers traffic law in Louisiana. I saw a few trapping related laws under Title 56 but not many and its a long list of individual laws when you pull up Title 56.
