With the earlier post about amout I traps verses quality of sets. I have a questions. On average how many traps do most everyone run. I work 14 and 14 so I get 14 days a month to do nothing but trap. I am upping the amount of traps I Gona run this year I plan to have out in dec. around 150 traps for mainly coon mink beaver and otter. I also plan to put out another 2 dozen for k9 and cat. What do yaw run

The first 3 weeks of December 30-35 coon sets on the weekends. During the holidays to the middle of January about 20-25 coon sets, 5-10 mink sets and 20-25 otter sets when, I'm not working. From the middle of January until the end of February 25-35 otter sets and sometimes a few mink sets on the weekends and during my 2 weeks of vacation. I never leave a line out for more than 4 runs during my vacation. I also very seldom set the same set on 2 different weekends. All of my otter and mink sets are blind sets, my coon sets are mostly baited DPs and a few #11. I also make a couple of bobcat sets a season.

When running a sure enough fox line before work I average 30-35 sets. Cat line before work I may average 20. I will try to make between 35-50 sets on a weekend and maintain them through the week before work. Keep in mind I will be rolling at 4 am depending on how far I am set from home. When otter trapping before work which is very seldom I average 30. Water trapping is much harder in the dark and I tend not to run many otter sets. Everything is harder in the dark, but water trapping is really tough and take twice as long.

I don't plan on making any water sets before work this year.. I hate running traps between 4am til I have to head to work at 6:45. Especially on the warmer nights when you know a snake is about. When I was about 16, I was in the bayou in tallulah checking some traps, I was floating up stream and all of a sudden my head lamp died... I'm still floating along, digging around in my bag for a mag lite I had for backup... As I put my hand on the light and went to pull it out of the bag I felt somethig pulling on my jacket, then pushing up against my forehead then a sudden stop on the dime, I flew forward and as I hit the deck the most god awful sound started along with hurricane winds, I started to piss myself as I rolled over and turned the light on to find I had run into a tree fell over in the water that had an blue herring or something roosting on it... Scared me to death, I turned that boat around and went home to change drawers before school.. The end.. True story.. Another time I hit a beaver run in the dark and went from waste deep to under , filled my waders up pretty good, lost a bunch of stuff. Water trapping in the dark is dangerous
