Anyone thinking of getting new gear? I'm thinking of making some chain drowners and stakes. And (I'm not sure) pogos. If anyone made the washer type or the bullet type, how do you like them. pros and cons of each. Thanks Jon

I have changed over to rods for beaver/otter. 8 foot fiber rod set up has worked 300% better for me. I have used piles of different submersion rigs. I do like the Rally Hess cable set up much more than the chain set ups that I used. Since 09 I have tested many different products and I mean tested. Hauling, packing, setting, failing, losing. Like I say, I tested the fool out of some submersion rigs. Just tossed all the chains less than three months ago because they were in my way. Tossed a pile of mess us cables as well. Pulled the hardware off and set them free.

I too use the fiberglass rods for otter and beaver. I use pogos on all of my DP's and 1.5's for coon. I switched from pogos to drags for cats and yotes. Bought a few dozen #3 and #4 Long springs at the FTA convention in Pennsylvania in June, and picked up a few more dozen DP's just to save the shipping! Will be playing around with Cage trapping cats this season, as well as trying to get some goood night video of catches.

Glad a Yankee could help out you guys with the fiberglass drowning rods!!! Pogos work well if there is not much for rock or tree roots in your soil. The Iowa disposable are about the best all around from my limited experience with them. But there are so many options out there now you will have to try a few and see what you like. Redoing all my extension cables for my bodygrips, to include a snap on the end. Going to get a few dozen duke 1.75s rigged up for muskrat trapping this fall, with some larger pans to try out. Bought a new to me boat this summer, and need to see how many beaver I can get it on plane with!

Mike, I have my coni's set up with 6' aircraft cable swiveled to the trap, swivel in the middle on the cable and one at the end that has a snap hooked up to it. I carry less stakes now because I can easily secure the trap to a cypress root or tree and it ain't going anywhere. Plenty of cable so the animal can sink out of sight. I used to only have 2 swivels, but since I added the center swivel, cable doesn't tangle up or get messed up as fast. I am due for new waders. I'm tired of finding beaver runs and going under in the dark before work lol,so from here on, I'm hip wading. I plan on adding a few trail cams to my line as well Ryan, I'm setting mine out early for scouting, once the season opens ill position them to get close up footage of my sets in action. Hope Tim caven adds 1.5 dogless Bridgers to his line, I have some old monties I use for coons and I love them.

Lets see that new boat and how you got it set up. In no way is it anything special set up for trapping. Just an all welded boat, with electric start and tilt and from, that should handle rough water a little better and might be able to carry a few more animals when up on plane. Sitting I the yard after I picked it up

I've used the 1/8" cable 6.5' long with a snap to attach to the trap for a number of years. After running down south this last winter I am going to add a dog ear snap to the other end to make wrapping around trees or logs easier. If your going for hip boots look up Yoder brand hip boots if your looking for good winter boots. They will get way to hot for the summer down there!

Thanks for the info on the waders mike, but I'm set on buying a pair of "Dave's frog legs"briar/snake proof waders. I've heard their a little stiffer than neoprene, but they last a long time.. I can hardly concentrate on what I'm doing on those warmer winter mornings because I know it's warm enough for a snake to be moving about. One can never mistake the sound a cottonmouth makes when it plunges into the water off a cypress limb..
