Was wondering how everyones season went.
Mine started back in October in Wyoming. I had every intention of trapping the high country for marten. Second day I was there, we got 32 inches of snow. Needless to say, my marten trip ended before it even got started. I did make the most of it though. I spent 3 days harassing the beaver, muskrat, and mink on the Salt River down in Star Valley. Not what I had intended to go catch, but it beat twiddling my thumbs in the house and moaning and groaning about the snow. I ended up catching 12 beavs, 47 rats, and 3 mink. I had never set a rat trap before, so that was definately a blast. They are a neat critter to catch and handle. The 3 mink I caught up there were jet black. Nothing like our browns down here in La. And the beaver had fur! Lots and lots of fur!lol
In December, I had a guy from West Virginia come down and spend 16 nights with me. We hammered the beavers and coon in the river bottoms. The otter catch was a dissappointment though. Didn't catch near as many as I would have liked to. We got off to a great start on them. Had 4 the first catch. I thought we was gona really pile them up. Was 4 days before we caught another one! Dang otters! lol It was a heck of a good trip though. We are allready making plans to do it again next year.
2 weeks ago during the snow storm, me and a buddy of mine set out a dozen land traps for 3 nights. We took a pair of cats and a pair of grey fox and a nice furred female yote. He's a new trapper that just started out, so he really had a good time in some horrible trapping conditions! Snow and land trapping dont go to well together!
That's it for my season. Getting ready to catch a few fish and hopefully kill a few hogs before it gets to hot.
