Mike, I never worry about the wind when making a set. For me it is more important to set on location. Eye appeal will get them to try and sniff it out and see what is in the hole. Eye appeal puts their nose in over drive. You will read a lot about wind on other sights, I personally feel that consideration for the wind is a blend of modern deer hunter into the trapping world.

Well said Tony. I like to use turkey feathers hanging by thread on a barrel swivel close to my sets . It takes care of any wind changing because they all seem to want that moving feather.

You make very good points, smell and sight are two very good attractions,as well as sound. The wind does not play as important a role in trapping here in Louisiana, especially if you are right on top of a location. It is a very different story out West, when the temperature drops below zero with a foot of blowing snow and the wind howls at about 45 to 50 MPH,then you must try to utilize every advantage possible to get smell, sight, and sound to your desired catch.
